Common name: Yellow bird of paradise flower
Origin: South Africa
Minimum temperature: 5 degC
Description: This is a rare yellow variety of the well-known orange bird of paradise flower. Sometimes the yellow variety appears in nature between orange plants, but can otherwise only result when two yellow plants are crossed. Yellow with orange results in orange offspring. Therefore the pure yellow seeds are quite rare. The plant has banana-like leaves, grows well in a tight tub with regular fertilization, and reaches a height of about 1,5 meters. Minimum temperature is 5 degC.
Sowing description: Remove the orange fluff from the seeds to prevent fungal growth. Soak the seeds for 24-48 hours in lukewarm water and sow the seeds in sowing mix. Keep the soil constantly moist, cover with plastic foil/glass, and let the seeds germinate at a temperature of 25 degC. Germination may take a few weeks or months.
Sowing time: Whole year
Level of difficulty: Easy
