This bird of paradise flower distinguishes itself from other strelitzia species with its speared leaves of 1-2 meters in height. Also the flowers are slightly different, and have a red accent in the petals. The flowers are pollinated by birds and mostly appear when the plant is kept in a tight pot in a sunny stand. The plant doesn’t need a lot of water and can withstand a minimum temperature of -5 degC in the winter.Sowing description: Remove the orange fluff from the seeds to prevent fungal growth. Soak the seeds for 24-48 hours in lukewarm water and sow the seeds in sowing mix. Keep the soil constantly moist, cover with plastic foil/glass, and let the seeds germinate at a temperature of 25 degC. Germination may take a few weeks or months.

20 oktober jl. 3 zaden besteld
Na ontvangst zaden ontdaan van oranje pluis en enkele dagen in lauwwarm water laten badderen.
Vervolgens afzonderlijk in kartonnen kweekpotjes gezet gevuld met mengsel van hoofdzakelijk zaai/stekgrond maar ook met wat spaghnum mos en perliet en vermiculiet en weggezet in propagator met interne verwarming bij 25 tot 30 graden.
Momenteel 2 zaden met een behoorlijke (ca 10cm) pen cq hoofdwortel
Deze nu overgezet in z'n geheel met kartonnen potje naar diepere grotere pot en in andere propegator gezet zonder verwarming maar wel bij een externe warmtebron in huis.
Zal op later tijdstip er nog op terugkomen of het vervolg succesvol blijft (er een babyplant komt)
Na ontvangst meteen gezaaid zoals omschreven. Na 3 maanden voorzichtig naar de zaden gegraven en helaas... alle drie de zaden waren niet meer hard en bedorven.
De zaden heb ik op 15 april 21 binnen gekregen per post
Heb ze meteen in een thermosfles voorgeweekt +/- 48 uur
2 dagen later waren ze alle 3 al gekiemd in de thermosfles
