The pohutukawa is a beautiful plant from the coastal areas of the northern island of New Zealand. It starts growing as a shrub, but in nature, it can eventually grow into a large tree with a wide crown. The plant cannot tolerate frost and should be brought indoors during winter. Plants can flower and fruit at a young age and produce elegant flowers with hundreds of red stamens with bright yellow pollen. The leaves are grey-green and lightly haired to protect the plant from wind, salt and drought. 'Pohutukawa' is a Maori name and multiple parts and nectar of the plant are used for medicinal purposes by the Maori.

Sowing description: Spread the small seeds over sowing mix and don't cover them with soil, because it is a light germinating species. Germinate at 20-25 degrees Celsius in a light place. Keep the soil continously moistened by covering the growing container with glass or plastic to hold the moist.
