Family: Moraceae
Scientific name: Ficus religiosa
Common name: Bodhi tree / Sacred Fig
Origin: India

The Bodhi tree can reach a height of 30 meters in nature, with a trunk diameter of three meters, but can also be kept as humble houseplant or bonsai.
The tree originates from India and is sacred to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
In Hinduism, sadhus meditate under the tree and host religious dances around it. In Buddhism it is believed that Buddha experienced his enlightenment under this tree. The original site of this is Bodh Gaya, but the original tree has since then disappeared.
However, an original branch of the tree is planted in Sri Lanka and still lives there, and therefore currently is the oldest living plant flower in the world. The tree is called Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and is planted in 288 BC.

Very easy to germanate. I forgot the pot with the seeds outside in Ireland during the summer and I got about 10 plants. I would advise using a heat mat to get more plants. They grew quite fast over the summer. During the winter I left them in a window in a room that was quite cold, as low as 5 degrees. They really didn't like the cold but survived it well enough. Its January now and I've moved them into a warm place and and given them a 9w grow lamp, it's been about 2 weeks and they are already starting to grow new leafs.
I consider this very plant very easy to grow but it really doesn't like the cold.

Heel kiemkrachtig zaad. Ik heb maar liefst 20 zaailingen uit 1 portie.
