Common name: Candlebark Gum Origin: Southeastern Australia Description: This Eucalyptus species is called the Candlebark Gum, because the bark does not come directly from the tree when it dies off, so that the trunk gets a battered appearance. This is similar to a burning candle. The yellow-white and grey trunk has orange-red stripes during the summer, making it quite graceful.
It is a species with origins in Southeast Tasmania, and can nowadays be found in many places in southeastern Australia. The species is hardy. Germination instructions: Sow the seeds on the surface of sowing mix and let them germinate at 20 degC on a bright spot. Thereby keep the soil constantly moist. Sowing time: All year round Photo 2: Nathanael Coyne via Flickr
