Family: Musaceae
Scientific name: Ensete sp. 'Klauy Pa'
Common name: Kluay Pa Banana
Origin: Thailand

A rare banana variety that originates from the Chiang Mai region in north-western Thailand. Since the plant grows on steep slopes, it knows a compact growth. The blade is rather short and wide, and at the bottom a red midrib can be found, which is yellow on top. The large inflorescence is dark red.
The species likes tropical temperatures, but can also be kept as a great container plant with a minimum temperature of around 5 degrees Celsius. Provide a sheltered and sunny spot.

Sowing description: First scarify the seeds with some sand paper and then let them soak in lukewarm water for 48 hours. Sow them in sowing mix, keep the soil constantly moist and let them germinate at around 25 degrees Celcius.

Sowing time: All year round
Difficulty: Challenging
Minimum temperature: 5 degrees Celcius
