The yellow tree tomato is a variety of the regular red tree tomato and produces 10 cm large, yellow fruits. They also have yellow flesh and can be scooped or processed in dishes. The species originates from the Andes, on an altitude between 1.000 and 3.000 meters high. New Zealand was the first country to commercially exploit the species, and launched the trade name “tamarillo”. The yellow variant is, however, seldom offered on the market.

This species can be kept as a container plant, at a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.
