Common name: Rough tree fern Origin: Australia Description: This tree fern comes from the southern parts of Australia, where the species occurs in the shady, moist forests up to an altitude of 1.200 meters. In nature, the proper trees can reach a height up to 12 meters, with leaves up to 4 meters long. But in a temperate climate, the plant won’t reach these kind of heights quickly. It can be planted in many areas of the garden, because it can withstand temperatures up to -10 degrees Celsius for a limited time. In addition, the adaptability of this species is quite remarkable and makes this plant all but troublesome to take care of. Only moisty, well-drained soil is required for good growth.
Germination instructions: Do not cover the spores and scatter them in sowing mix in a warm and moisty environment. The temperature has to attain at least 25 degrees Celsius, and the soil mustn’t dry out. Germination usually occurs within three months, but it can sometimes take a little while longer. Water the seeds regularly to stimulate germination. Sowing time: All year round Photo 1: Chrisy op GoodNorthCoastLife (blog) Photo 2: Don Harbison-Evan
