Product description

A tropical climber with beautiful, deep blue flowers. They are about 4 cm large and have a yellow heart. They are used in the Asian kitchen as a natural pigment for colouring food. Especially rice dishes, like the well known nasi kerabu, are coloured blue with these flowers. In Thailand the flowers are used to brew blue tea.
Originally the species occurs only in south east Asia, but now can be found throughout the tropics globally. The plant can be kept as an annual or perennial. With a maximum height of metres it will do well in a pot. The Latin name Clitoria was chosen by Linnaeus because of the flower's shapes. To Linnaeus, they looked like the female sex organ and is why he chose this surprising name.

Sowing description: Scarify the seeds in 1 place with sandpaper and then soak for 24 hours in luke warm water. Sow in sowing mix and germinate at 20-25 degrees Celsius.

Ronan

Beautiful climbing plant with striking blue flowers. Grown in the greenhouse it grew to about 2m.

On my first try, none of the seeds sprouted, even though I followed the given instructions. I was determined to try again, so I ordered another packet. I scarified only half of the seeds before soaking them, and every last one of them sprouted beautifully very soon after. None of the seeds I didn't scarify and only soaked sprouted, so I'd definitely recommend doing that. I may have scarified the seeds too deep on my first try, as it was my first time doing it, and they are quite thin. I also had the first set of seeds in cardboard pots that may have dried the soil too fast, the second time I used plastic pots with drainage holes. I had some of the seeds covered with a plastic dome with air holes, the covered seeds sprouted a few days after the uncovered ones. I used seed starting soil mix for all of them.

Wonderful plant. Viable seeds. Never managed to get it to flower indoors but I'll grow it again in an actual garden in the future.

Hier na 2 dagen een heel vlotte ontkieming.
We hebben allerlei manieren geprobeerd
- gewoon zaai- en stekgrond
- zaai pods
-rotswol
allemaal vlot ontkiemd.
