A very graceful bamboo by the thickening of the stem, which is why this species is also known as Buddha’s belly bamboo. The species is very suitable as a container plant (min. -5 degrees Celsius), because the thickenings grow larger when the bamboo grows under less favourable conditions. In a container, the plants relatively have less space and nutrients. Because of the thickenings, the species squeaks and cracks in strong wind. It’s a fast grower.
