This beautiful tree from South Africa can't withstand frost, but it is also attractive as a houseplant for its lovely red-black seeds. These seeds are often used in Africa for necklaces and other jewellery.
After the green-red flowers, brown woody pods are formed, each containing about 10 seeds. The wood of the tree is well known, because it’s very hard and durable.
A mixture made from the roots and the bark would bring luck to African hunters as they wash themselves with it.
