Product description

A very decorative species that originates from the south of South-America. There it grows as an epifyt in trees, where its abundant air roots are used to take up water and nutrients. The elegant, deeply incised leaves have long stems that can get very long; in the tropics they can easily be longer than a metre. With growth the bottom leaf drops  and leaves an eye-catching scar on the woody stem that increases in size. After a few years the plant can flower with a white inflorescence that is characteristic for the Araceae family. The inflorescence consists of a spade and spadix, and it gives off a sweet smell that attracts beetles for pollination. It is an easy houseplant that will do well in the shadow. A light spot is also suitable, but the plant does not like direct sunlight. Additionally the plant likes a well draining soil and watering regularly, although it is good to let the soil dry out between watering times.

Sowing description: Sow in sowing mix and cover seeds with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil lightly moist and cover with plastic or glass (to keep the heat and moisture in) and keep at 23-30 degrees Celsius. Germination can take 1 to 2 months.

Good seeds, but growing way too slow

Purchased last summer, and most of them germinated well on sphagnum moss. This vendor's seeds are great! Really recommend them.

This plant's seeds germinate easily and successfully, HOWEVER, they germinate very very slowly, and also grow very slowly as a baby. Last summer it probably took me at least a month or something, with the most optimized temperature. At some point I thought they were dead seeds, but they eventually all germinated. They also grew soooooo slowly as a baby, even with all the nutrients I gave them, they are still tiny little babies. OMG, after about a few months, they are still just 1 inch tall! I eventually tossed them all into the garbage, because they simply don't worth all the time, money and space (under the limited grow lights) that I gave them. If you have a lot of time in your hand and do not care to wait for several years until they can reach for a tiny house plant size, go ahead and buy them!

Germinated in 2-3 weeks at 27-30 degrees, paper towel method. but do no cover the seed, just lay the over the towel within a plastic bag. I think the seeds are photoblastic so they require direct light to trigger the germination but i am no expert.

Ontkiemen duurde 2 weken bij 30 graden. In mix van cocapeat en gehakte spagnummos. Top
