Product description

The large seeds of this tropical tree are edible and taste like almonds. They can be eaten fresh or roasted and incorporated into dishes. In addition, the species is widely grown for its large, ornamental leaves of up to 25 cm in size. These looks beautiful in the tropics and as a houseplant, but the leaves are also harvested for application in aquariums. They have a positive influence on the water values and they can be eaten by herbivorous fish.

The species is found in many tropical areas and grows particularly along the coast and further inland along rivers. The fruits are light in weight and can therefore spread by floating on water. The seeds are quite long lasting and can therefore germinate along a river or on a tropical beach even after a long journey. As a houseplant, the species likes a sunny position and well-drained soil. You can water as soon as the soil is dry.

Sowing description: The large seed should first be soaked in water for 24 hours. Then sow the seeds in sowing and cutting soil and let them germinate at 25-30°C. Keep the soil constantly lightly moist. Germination usually takes a few weeks.
