Product description

The wood of the mahogany is very strong and has a beautiful, dark brown color. It has been used on a larger scale by man since the 16th century. First in the decoration of churches and for repairs of ships. Later mainly for making furniture and musical instruments. Today it is scarce and is often replaced by woods from trees with faster growth. The mahogany tree is still grown on plantations in, for example, India, but unfortunately it has become very rare in the wild and is even threatened with extinction there. Most of the large trees have been cut down because the wood brings in a lot of money.

In the tropics the mahogany can reach a height of about 30 meters, but in our country the species can be kept as a houseplant and remains small. The shiny, compound leaves are particularly striking and it is special to sow the large, winged seeds. Young plants should still be protected from direct sunlight, but older plants can be left in the sun. In addition, make sure the soil is constantly moist.

Sowing directions: The wing of the seed must be broken off before germination. Then the seeds can be soaked in water for a few hours and then sown in seedling soil at 25-35grC. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist.

I peeled the seeds and placed them in a plastic box, wrapped in moist paper. I was able to germinate one seed out of three (I wasl almost able to germinate a second one) which is a good rate to me. As soos as the root started growing I put it on soil. So far the tree is doing good.
