Home-Tropical-African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata)
Product description
The large, red-orange flowers contain much nectar and water, making them popular with birds in the tropics. The birds pollinate the flowers in the process, after which woody fruits are formed with many winged seeds. The seeds are spread by the wind and germinate mainly in disturbed areas, such as abandoned agricultural areas and pieces of forest that have been cut down. It is thus a pioneer species and because of this characteristic the species can be invasive in other tropical areas outside of those of Africa. Naturally, the species grows in the drier forests of tropical Africa, often with a long dry period. Therefore, the species is very resistant to little water and also likes a lot of sunlight.
In Africa, the tree can reach a height of sometimes 25 meters, but we can keep the species as a house or tub plant. The size in a pot remains limited and it can also be pruned well.
Sowing description: Sow seeds on the surface of seed and cutting soil and barely cover with soil. Cover completely with foil or glass and keep soil constantly moist. Germination at 25 to 30°C on a light spot without direct sunlight.
