Climbing aroid (Pothos scandens)

Product description

This species of aroid is found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. It is a climbing plant that grows there mainly against trees, but can also be found on stones. The graceful leaves have a winged petiole and grow fairly flat against the surface. There is much variation within the species in terms of leaf shape, which previously led people to believe that there were all kinds of different species within the Pothos genus. It is now clear that it is the same species with a lot of variation. The inflorescence has a green spathe and a round, yellowish spadix. This makes the plant recognisable as an aroid, despite its different manner of growth. The inflorescence is followed by orange-red berries containing 1 seed.

In the rainforest, the plant can grow several metres tall, but as a houseplant it remains smaller. It is important that the plant can climb against a surface, such as a wall, pillar or piece of wood. In addition, make sure it has well-drained soil and a position without direct sunlight. 

Sowing description: The short-lived seeds can be sown directly in a well-drained soil. Keep soil constantly slightly moist and allow to germinate at 25-30°C.
