Product description

This medicinal plant has a unique inflorescence with fairly large, green, overlapping bracts. The inflorescence hangs down and can grow up to 50 cm long. Hidden between the large bracts are the white petals only 6 mm in size. It is a shrub from south-east Asia that is mostly found in disturbed areas or forest clearings. Mostly in drier forests from India to China and Indonesia. In those countries, the species is used medicinally for a variety of purposes, where it is said to be especially anti-inflammatory and analgesic. The plant is also used to counteract poisoning.

The species can be kept as a houseplant, but can also be taken outside in the summer months if necessary. Ensure well-drained soil and a sunny to semi-sunny position.

Sowing description: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours, then sow shallowly in seed soil at about 25grC. Keep soil constantly slightly moist and allow to germinate in a light location. Germination usually after a few weeks.
