Porter's Sunflower (Helianthus porteri)

Product description

A wild sunflower species found on rocky soils in the southeastern United States. The plant grows as an annual and blooms at the end of the summer with many golden yellow flowers of several centimeters in size. In the United States this often happens in large numbers simultaneously and this looks beautiful in rocky areas. The maximum height is 1 meter, but that size is only reached at flowering. Before flowering, it remains a smaller plant that develops calmly with occasional pauses in growth. Pauses are made when the weather is dry, so that the plant can save energy and water. 
In the Netherlands we can also keep the species as an annual in the garden. Flowering works best after a warm summer and the flowers will be pollinated by bees and butterflies. After flowering, you can collect seeds for another round the following spring. Provide well-drained soil and a sunny location. The plant is well resistant to drought. 

The species is named after the American botanist Thomas Conrad Porter.

Sowing description: Soak seeds in water for a few hours and then sow in sowing and cutting soil at 20-25grC. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist.
