Product description

The lemon-scented gum is known for its strongly lemon-scented leaves, which are used to keep insects away. The scent and high oil content make the leaves very suitable for extracting citronella oil. This oil is mainly used as an insect repellent, but also as an ingredient for perfume. Like most eucalyptus trees, about 98%, this species is native to Australia, where it grows in the dry, open forests of Queensland. There, the tree can reach a height of up to 40 metres tall at a growth rate of up to 2 metres per year. In cultivation, however, it remains smaller and the plant can also be pruned well. The bark is smooth and white in colour. The flowers arise in clusters and consist mainly of white stamens with a yellow pistil in the centre.

The minimum temperature of the species is around 0degC, so we can keep it as a container or houseplant. When doing so, make sure it has a light location and preferably a slightly acidic, loamy soil.

The common name ‘eucalyptus’ actually includes 3 main genera: Eucalyptus, Angophora and Corymbia. In addition, there are 4 smaller genera. The species in these genera are called eucalypts, which therefore include this lemon-scented eucalyptus.

Sowing description: Sow the seeds in sowing soil at 20-25grC. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist, with germination usually occurring within a few weeks.
