Home-Tropical-Rose of Venezuela (Brownea grandiceps)
Product description
The Rose of Venezuela is a rare tree known for its large clusters of bright red flowers. These clusters grow directly from the trunk of the tree and are close together, giving them a spherical appearance. That is why it is often cultivated as an ornamental tree and is considered one of the most beautiful trees in South America. It is an important tree for hummingbirds and other pollinators because of the large amount of nectar the flowers produce. After flowering, the tree produces elongated seed pods that eventually release their seeds.
The tree is found in the rainforests of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, where it can grow to a height of 10 metres. The tree's new, hanging leaves have a striking pink colour and are speckled, which adds to the tree's decorative value. This has a similar effect to the tropical handkerchief tree (Cynometra browneoides), which comes from the same family. Over time, these leaves gradually turn green.
The Venezuelan rose can be grown as a houseplant in cooler climates and can be moved outside during the summer months. Provide well-draining soil and water regularly. The plant also likes high humidity, which can be achieved by spraying regularly.
Sowing instructions: At arrival of the germinated seed, you can sow it directly in a sowing mix. Place in a spot with lots of indirect light and at a temperature of approx. 25°C. Keep the soil slightly moist at all times. Cover with foil or glass.
