Description

This rare Alocasia species is found in the lowland rainforest of Borneo. Originally discovered in the north, the species is now found scattered throughout the island. The leaves are oblong and can eventually reach 15 cm in size. This is quite small for an Alocasia, with the maximum size of the plant also being only 30 cm. The inflorescence is white-green and is followed by orange-red fruits containing 1 seed.

The plant does best at a temperature between 25 and 30 degC, but can be kept slightly less warm if necessary. In addition, high humidity (>70%) is important, otherwise you can spray the leaves with water regularly. Provide an airy, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter and a light location without direct sunlight.

The species is named after the Italian botanist Odoardo Beccari, the discoverer of the giant arum (Amorphophallus titanum).

Sowing description:The already germinated seed can further develop in Sphagnum moss. After the formation of the first leaves, it can be repotted in an airy soil mixture with e.g. Sphagnum, peat, coconut fiber and/or other organic material.
