Product description

This tropical vine is best known as a host plant for the parasitic Rafflesia species, including the largest flower in the world: Rafflesia arnoldii. The species is native to Southeast Asia, particularly Sri Lanka, India and Nepal. It grows in low-lying tropical forests and swamp areas, where it can reach a height of up to 5 metres. It is a graceful climber with leathery leaves that grow in spirals of 3 to 7 leaves. Under the right conditions, the plant can produce small white flowers that grow together in clusters. Both male and female plants are needed for fruiting, as the species is dioecious. The small fruits that follow are eaten by birds in nature. It can be challenging to get the plant to flower indoors.

In temperate climates, the species can be kept as a houseplant, where a location with plenty of indirect light is important for growth. Ensure well-draining soil and that the plant has a climb support. Water regularly. A temperature between 20 and 30 °C is ideal for good growth. The plant can be sprayed regularly for a higher humidity.

Sowing description: Upon receipt of the germinated seed, it can be sown directly in sowing and cutting soil. Ensure a location with plenty of indirect light and place at a temperature between 20-30 degrees Celsius.
