Product description

The Kopyor mango is a relatively unknown mango species from the humid lowland forests of tropical Asia. The species is mainly found on Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi, but can also be found as far as the Philippines and China. The fairly small fruits, about half the size of a regular mango, have a slightly sour and citrus-like taste. The fruits are often harvested unripe for use in salads. However, when fully ripe, the flesh slowly liquefies and can be sucked directly from the fruit. A tropical drink that is especially popular with children.

Like all mango trees, they can grow very large in the wild, up to 30 metres high, with a dense crown and a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 metres. The name laurina comes from the shape of the leaves, as they are somewhat similar to laurel leaves (Laurus nobilis). Flowering takes place in large, branched inflorescences that appear at the ends of branches. The flowers are about 1 cm in size, light yellow and have a sweet scent. After pollination, elongated green fruits form, which ripen to yellow or orange.

The tree is not generally grown commercially, but due to its resistance to disease, this species is used as a rootstock for plantations of the common mango. The species can be kept relatively small as a houseplant by growing it in a pot and pruning it regularly. Give the plant well-drained soil and ensure high humidity. You can achieve this by spraying the plant regularly. Water regularly and keep the temperature above 10 degrees Celsius.

Sowing description: Sow the already germinated seed directly in sowing mix at a temperature of 25-30 degrees Celsius. Keep the soil constantly moist.
