This rare tree grows up to a height of 1,000 metres in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Its flowering is very striking and consist of dozens of brownish-purple to pink flowers. They grow directly from the trunk and close to the ground so that they can be pollinated by beetles. The fruits are about 3 cm in size and also brownish-purple to sometimes yellow in colour, but are not edible.
In the tropics, the tree can reach a height of 20 metres and the leaves grow to about 25 cm. As a houseplant, the species remains much smaller and can also be pruned well. Provide a light location without direct sunlight and well-drained, moist soil.
Sowing description: Sow the germinated seed directly into well-drained soil. Keep the soil constantly moist and maintain a temperature of 25-30°C for initial development.
