This is a very rare pipe flower from the tropical forests of Borneo with striking pipe-shaped flowers. The plant grows naturally along river basins and produces light green to orange-red flowers with three striking lobes. These flowers can grow up to 15 cm in size in nature. The flowers produce an unpleasant, strong odour to attract specific insects for pollination. The flower has hairs on the inside that stick to these insects, so that they can only fly away when they are covered in pollen grains. It is a climbing plant with slightly flat stems and heart-shaped leaves.
In temperate climates, the species can be kept as a houseplant. Provide support so that the plant has something to climb on. Provide a warm place with indirect light and slightly tropical conditions. If necessary, the leaves can be sprayed to increase humidity.
Sowing description: The germinated seed can be sown in seed and cutting compost after receipt. Cover and place in a spot with indirect light. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist. A temperature above 20 °C is optimal for initial development.
