Product description

The Bornean rubber plant is a rare climbing shrub that is best known for its high-quality latex and edible fruit. Before the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) became more popular and synthetic rubber was introduced, this plant was an important source of rubber. This shrub-like vine grows naturally in the tropical forests of Borneo, but also on other islands in Indonesia and parts of Thailand and Malaysia. The plant climbs other plants and trees, reaching heights of up to 30 metres. Young leaves change colour from orange to green and form shiny, oval and slightly leathery leaves. After pollination of the small, yellow-white flowers, many small yellow-orange fruits follow, which have a sweet taste and are said to taste like orange sorbet. This is why the plant is also nicknamed Heaven Fruit.

It is a fast climber that can be kept as a houseplant. Ensure well-drained soil and support for the climbing growth. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist and spray the leaves regularly with water. Place the plant in a spot with plenty of indirect light.

Sowing description: Upon receipt of the germinated seed, it can be sown directly in sowing and cutting soil. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist and provide a spot with plenty of indirect sunlight. A warm spot, above 20 °C and high humidity will promote initial growth.
