Product description

The cupuaçu belongs to the same genus as the cacao and produces large fruits weighing up to 1.5 kg. The species originates from the Amazon region of Brazil and Peru, where it grows to a height of up to 15 metres. The cupuaçu produces the largest flowers and fruits of the Theobroma genus and has striking white and red flowers. The fruits that follow have a hard, woody shell with an orange-brown, hairy exterior. The fruits contain yellow-white flesh with an aromatic flavour and up to 25 hard seeds. The flesh can be eaten fresh or processed into juice, jam and ice cream. Like cocoa, the seeds can be used to make a type of chocolate called cupulate. The fruits are sold at local markets, where demand often exceeds supply.

In temperate climates, the species can be kept as a houseplant, where it remains much smaller. It is an interesting species that thrives at temperatures between 20 and 30 °C. As it is a tropical tree, the plant needs high humidity. This can be achieved by regularly spraying the plant with water. Ensure well-drained soil and a location with plenty of indirect light.

Sowing description: After receiving the germinated seed, it can be sown immediately in sowing and cutting soil. Cover and place in a location with indirect light at a temperature between 25-30 degrees Celsius.
