Product description

This rare Ptychosperma palm comes from the tropical coastal areas of Papua New Guinea where it grows as distinctive clusters. The palm can grow up to 12 metres tall with a sturdy trunk 5-9 cm in diameter and forms beautiful pinnate palm leaves in a crown shape at the top. In nature, the leaves can grow up to 2.4 metres long. Over time, the palm naturally grows additional shoots, making this species versy suitable for in a pot and eventually form a full plant. Older palms can produce an inflorescence of yellowish-white small flowers followed by yellow to bright orange fruits.

It is a graceful palm as a houseplant and is a relatively fast grower. Provide well-draining soil and a position with plenty of indirect sunlight. As the palm ages, it can withstand sunlight better than when it is still young due to its tropical origin. In the wild the palm is used to being regularly flooded by flooding rivers, so regular watering is important for the species.

Sowing description: On receipt of the germinated seeds, these can be sown immediately in sowing soil. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist and put away in a place with plenty of indirect sunlight. Avoid too much direct sunlight. The ideal temperature for initial development is between 25 and 30 grC.
