Product description

The trumpet-shaped flowers of this Brugmansia species are strikingly coloured with a yellow base and a red tip. Orange tones can be seen at the transition and this colour combination looks special. The species is found in the Andes mountains in South America, at altitudes between 2,000 and 3,000 metres. The flowers are odourless and are pollinated there by hummingbirds attracted by the bright colours. In the Andes, the shrub or tree can reach a height of sometimes up to 10 metres, but as a houseplant or container plant it remains much smaller at 2 metres.

Due to its natural growth at altitude, the species does not withstand high temperatures well. Above 23grC, flowering is inhibited and above 30grC also growth. As a result, it is best kept as a houseplant during the summer months. As the minimum temperature for the species is around freezing, you can keep it as a houseplant in winter as well. In spring and autumn, it could then be taken outside. Provide humus-rich soil and water the plant regularly. A light spot without direct sunlight is optimal.

Sowing description: Soak seeds in water for 12 hours, then sow in soil for sowing. Keep soil constantly slightly moist and allow to germinate at 19-25grC. Germination usually after a few weeks, but can follow as long as the seeds are hard.

Martina

Germination took about 4 weeks and this beauty finally came out. Sprouts are strong and green. In order for the seeds to germinate, they needed to get soft, so it was necessary to keep the substrate moist. I have grown angel's trumpets in the past, they are beautiful plants, so I can't wait for these to grow up. Thank you :)
