Product description

The leaves of this species are oblong, which is unusual in the normally round-leaved Alocasia genus. The species is very rare and occurs sporadically on New Guinea. There the plant grows in moist places in the lowland rainforest, such as the banks of streams. The leaves can reach a length of 50 cm in the tropics, but as an indoor plant they remain smaller. The light veins form a nice contrast with the dark green color of the shiny leaves.  The species can flower with a green inflorescence that is followed by orange-red berries after pollination.

Provide a bright location without direct sunlight and a consistently moist, airy soil with plenty of organic matter. A humidity of 60-70% is sufficient and also a temperature of 20-25 deg C seems to be fine for this plant. It is especially important to give enough water and if necessary to spray the leaves with water when the humidity drops.

Sowing description: The already germinated seed can further develop into Sphagnum moss. After the formation of the first leaves, it can be repotted in an airy soil mixture with e.g. Sphagnum, peat, coconut fiber and/or other organic material.
