The leaves of this rare Alocasia species have a greyish upper side and a light green underside. The species grows on loamy slopes in the rainforests of Borneo, at altitudes between 500 and 800 metres above sea level. The plant grows to a height of about 40 cm and has a few leaves at a time, which can reach a width of 25 cm. The inflorescence is white with a pink-red base and the flowers are followed by orange berries containing 1-3 seeds after pollination.
It is a tropical species that grows best in a location with high humidity (>60%) and temperature (>20°C). Also ensure a light location without direct sunlight and well-drained soil with, for example, perlite and bark. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist, but not too wet.
The species is named after Dr. Paul P.K. Chai, an Indonesian botanist who conducted extensive research on plant species in Borneo.
Sowing description: The germinated seed can be transferred directly to well-drained soil with organic material. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist and a temperature of 25-30°C is optimal for initial development.
