Product description

The Coastal redwood is the tallest tree on earth. The highest individual at this moment is the ‘Hyperion’, reaching up to 115,5 meters high and almost 9 m wide. According to research, the maximum height of a tree can be 120-130 under ideal conditions. Because the climate in Europe is less favorable, the trees will not reach this height. The highest individual in the Netherlands grows in Arboretum Trompenburg in Rotterdam, and measured 27,5 meters in 2006.

Sowing description: In general the seeds don’t germinate easily, but it’s definitely worth to give it a try. For the best result, it’s best to put the seeds away for 8 weeks in the fridge, after which they can be sown in sowing mix. Cover the seeds lightly with soil or sand, and let the seeds germinate at room temperature. Make sure the soil is constantly moist and put it in a bright stand without direct sunlight.

Met een beetje geduld lukt het echt om zaadjes te kwieken, mijne mammoetboom is all 10cm lang en heeft vol blaadjes vergeet niet kunstmest te toevegen voor een gezonde boompje!

Helft van de zaadjes in de koelkast gedaan, andere helft direct gezaaid. Na een paar weken staan er al 3 van de niet-koelkastzaden boven de grond. Zaai- en stekgrond goed vochtig houden, en het komt goed!

Hans, sequoia zaden moet je niet inzaaien. Het zijn lichtkiemers en geen donkerkiemers. Bovendien hebben de zaden veel aandacht nodig kwa watergift en temperatuur. Zelf zaai ik ze OP een bedje zaai en stek grond en hou ik de grond vochtig en laat ik ze af en toe een keer uitdrogen. Geduld is een schone zaak.

Redwood zaadjes eerst een paar weken in de koelkast, zoals aangegeven, en daarna in stekgrond gezaaid. Na 8 weken nog niets te zien dus ik neem aan dat ze nu niet meer kiemen. Vreemd genoeg dezelfde procedure gedaan met sequoia giganteum (mammoetboom) en deze zijn zeker voor de helft wel uitgekomen en groeien goed, terwijl deze volgens de handleiding veel slechter kiemen als redwood zaadjes!
