Product description

The root of mandrake has a rich history in witchcraft, superstition and its medicinal uses. There are many books about the use of the mandrake roots and in recent time the plant became more known for its appearance in the Harry Potter books. In the Harry Potter books mandrake is used to neutralize negative wizardry spells and different old stories about the plant are brought up. One of which says the screaming of the plant when it is harvested is rather deadly, which is why dogs or ear warmers were used to harvest it.

Putting all the wizardry aside, the plant is winter hardy and will grow well in the garden. No ear warmers are needed to care for the plant, but keep in mind that all parts of the plant are very toxic. In autumn the above ground parts of the plants die off and they will regrow in spring, followed by purple flowers. The origin of the plant lies within the alps and can still be found in the wild in swiss.

Sowing description: Let the seeds soak in lukewarm water for 24 hours prior to sowing. Sow the seeds in sowing soil, cover the pot with glass or plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for 4 to 6 weeks. Afterwards germinate the plants are room temperature. Germination usually after 3 to 6 weeks.
