Description

The papyrus plant is best known for its use for scrolls in ancient Egypt. It originates from the Nile Delta. However, nowadays the plant is almost extinct in Egypt due to pollution. It is, however, still very common in the swamps of other African countries, including Sudan and Uganda. The stems of the plant are triangular and have an umbrella-like roof of fan-shaped leaves on their top. In addition to paper, the stems were also used for the construction of boats, roofing and rope.
The species can be kept as a container plant and has to stand in a layer of water. You can also regularly water the plant and provide it with a bright spot. During the summer, or in a subtropical climate, you can cultivate the species in a pond.

Sowing description: Sow the thiny seeds on the surface of sowing mix and let them germinate at a bright spot at 25 degC. Keep the soil moist.
