Product description

The ashoka is a remarkable species from the rainforests of India. It is an important, sacred tree within Hinduism and Buddhism, and can therefore be found near palaces and temples. In nature, the species is rare and this is mainly due to the (excessive) harvesting of the bark for its many medicinal uses. But also, the disappearance of the habitat is a threat to the survival of wild populations.

The leaves are very decorative, but the inflorescence especially is spectacular. The flowers grow in large clusters and color from orange-yellow to red. They emit a sweet fragrance that attracts many insects. Bees in particular take care of pollination in nature. It is a small tree or shrub that can grow up to 10 meters high in the tropics. We can keep the species as a houseplant, where a light position without direct sunlight is best. In addition, make sure the soil is permeable and water the plant regularly.

Sowing description: Sow the short lived seed directly into seed and cutting soil. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist and let the seeds germinate at 25-30°C.
