The Johore tree is a rare tree from the lychee family and originates from Borneo and the Philippines. The tree grows up to 15 metres tall and naturally grows along rivers and streams. It has a beautiful feathered growth with leaves up to 45 cm long. New leaves change colour from a striking light purple-pink to green. From the age of 3 to 5 years, the tree can produce clusters of wine-red flowers, followed by wine-red to almost black fruits up to 4 cm in size. The fruits have white flesh and taste sweet when fully ripened.
The tree produces both male and female flowers, so one tree is sufficient for fruiting. As it is a tropical tree, the species can be kept in a temperate climate as a houseplant or in a tub, which can be placed outside in the summer. Provide a sunny spot and water regularly.
Sowing instructions: Once you have received the germinated seed, you can sow it directly in a sowing mix. Place it in a sunny spot. A temperature above 20°C is favourable for the initial development. Keep the soil slightly moist at all times.
