Description

The upriver orange mangrove is a unique and elegant mangrove species with a distinctive inflorescence. This mangrove originates from the coastal areas of Southeast Asia and grows mainly along rivers and tidal marshes in slightly brackish water. The tree can grow up to 30 metres high and can grow on various types of soil, from rocky to clayey soil. The mangrove can bloom with striking greenish-yellow to pinkish-orange flowers. In the wild, the flowers are pollinated by birds. The fruits and developing seeds of this mangrove are traditionally collected in the wild, cooked and eaten. Like other mangrove species, the seeds are viviparous, which means that the seeds fall from the mother plant already germinated. The seeds are somewhat cigar-shaped. Over time, the tree forms stilt roots that are somewhat thicker than those of many other mangrove species.

The orange river mangrove is able to grow in brackish, fresh and slightly salty water. It is a relatively slow grower, making it a suitable plant for an aquarium or paludarium with sufficient water. The mangrove can also be kept in a glass jar or vase. The orange river mangrove grows best at temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius. A mixture of sand and pond soil is suitable for keeping this species.

Sowing instructions: Upon receipt of the seed, you can sow it immediately with the side with the beginning roots underneath and allow the water level to rise to about half of the seed. Grow in a light, sunny place, ensuring that the leaves do not become submerged.
