Product description

The lacebark tree is native to the eastern part of Australia, where it grows in deciduous forests as a relatively large tree. The name “lacebark” comes from the network of fibers within the bark. Indigenous Australians used these fibers for many purposes, such as making ropes and nets.

The tree can reach up to 30 metres in height and grows in seasonally dry forests. Like Brachychiton rupestris, the tree produces a somewhat thickened trunk to store water, though with a diameter of 90-120 cm not as large. During the dry season the tree loses its leaves. These leaves are large, wavy, and have three lobes. After dropping the leaves the tree colors pink due to the production of attractive pink flowers. These flowers have no petals and very small anthers, giving them a unique appearance. Its multi-season appeal and relatively small root system make it suitable for planting alongside roads and in parks.

In temperate regions, the tree can be grown as a container plant. During winter, it should be protected from frost. In its native range, it becomes dormant during the dry summer, but in temperate regions dormancy will depend more on temperature. During winter, when the tree drops its leaves, watering should be kept to a minimum until spring.

Sowing description: Sow the seeds in sowing mix and let them germinate at 25-30 degC. Keep the soil constantly moist.
