Product description

Henry's aroid has a striking dark red inflorescence low above the ground, followed by bright blue berries. The species originates from Taiwan, where it grows in the undergrowth of subtropical forests. The striking inflorescence consists of a dark red spathe with a white edge and a pink-red spadix that can grow up to 50 cm in nature. During flowering, a strong, rotting odour is released, attracting insects for pollination. Green fruits then form, turning blue as they ripen. The leaf stalk is almost entirely green with a few white spots at the bottom, and the leaves are fresh green. The species can flower for the first time after a few years, and after flowering, the tuber will not form leaves for the rest of the year.

Like other Amorphophallus species, this plant has a dormant period once a year, during which the leaves die off. This generally takes place in winter. In the first few years, the species can be kept as a houseplant, with the tuber stored in a frost-free, cool and dry place during winter. In temperate climates, the species can be planted in the garden after a few years, as the tuber can tolerate a few degrees of frost. To be on the safe side, you can dig up the tuber before winter and overwinter it in a cool, frost-free place.

Sowing description: Once the germinated seed has been received, it can be placed directly in sowing soil. Temperatures around 20 °C are conducive to initial development. Ensure a location with plenty of indirect light. Keep the soil constantly slightly moist.
